Today I'm grateful for; a dance floor in the middle of a gallery. What fun to have a dance in the middle of an exhibition.

Today I'm grateful for; my new job, I start tomorrow and I can't wait!

Elephants are Taking Over the City! - Part Three

Yes, more Elephants.  I don't think I will get the chance to photograph any more before they disappear.  But not to worry, apparently they will be on display at Melbourne Zoo until the end of October. So if you want to go and see all of them in one place then head to the zoo.  Children are free on weekends, public and school holidays so it may be a nice way to spend a day over the holidays.

Rusty Marli was one of my favorites, I just love the tap on the trunk.

I shot all of these in one morning and I walked from one end of the city to the other.  My feet were so sore when I got home, but I'm glad I did it.

Elephants are Taking Over the City!

A few months ago we went to the Zoo.  While we were there we saw a whole herd of cardboard wrapped Elephants. We thought perhaps they were sculptures to be used in the Zoo.

  Well last week the mystery of the Elephant parcels was revealed.  It seems they were a herd of fifty Elephants to painted by Australian artists to celebrate 150 years of Melbourne Zoo. The colourful herd has now been placed in different locations around the city of Melbourne.  We went on a mini safari today and found a few of them.  They will be there for a few more weeks then will be auctioned to raise money for the Zoo.  Hopefully we will find a few more before the disappear.

This one is my favorite, I want it for my garden.

We Love Sydney! - Day One

Well I finally got around to organising our trip to Sydney.  I had promised Aishlyn that we would go up to see the Harry Potter Exhibition and when I checked the website a couple of weeks ago I realised it was finishing very soon.  So off I went and booked flights, hotels and exhibition tickets and last week we went.
It was a three day whirlwind with lots of sight-seeing and eating.

Day One:
After we checked in to our hotel Aishlyn wanted to go to see the Sydney Opera house.  She was off like a rocket and I had trouble catching up with her. 

She loved the Opera House and we took so many photos.

It was so big the only way to get a decent shot of it was to take a ferry ride and take a photo from the deck.

After a quick rest back at the hotel it was on to the Picasso Exhibition at the Art Gallery of NSW. We only got a 'little bit' lost walking from the hotel to the gallery, but that's just part of being a tourist!

It was an amazing exhibition and the gallery is wonderful. It was just unfortunate that we didn't have more time to explore the other exhibitions but the gallery closed not long after we came out of the Picasso exhibition.  Oh well next time.

We stopped off on the way back to the hotel to cool our feet a bit.
Then dinner and bed, completely exhausted!

Knitting Meets Art

I love this, it's a knitting clock.  It takes a day to do one row and at the end of the year you have a two meter long scarf.  Designed by the wonderful young artist Siren Elise Wilhelmsen. I just wish you could buy them.

Animal Self Portrait: Thursday

Finally the animation that Aishlyn did at ARTPLAY in the last school holidays is up for all to see. They are going to be screened at Fed Square on the big screen from the 4th - 10th July.

Winter Wanderings - Part One

Well we woke up late on Saturday as there was no ballet class for Aishlyn to get ready for. Aishlyn's first question, 'What shall we do today?'.

'Hmmm.... how about we go to the Art Gallery?'.
Surprisingly she replied with, 'Great idea, then we can have a wander around the city and see whats going on.'
So after breakfast we set off for the train and our wandering began.

Our first stop was the National Gallery of Victoria.  

Showing at the moment is an exhibition called 'Kaleidoscope: Art and Colour'. It looks at the impact colour has on the viewer and explores how different artists have used colour in their work.  There was one interactive activity in which you selected shapes and colours then put them together (using a touch screen) to create a design.  Once finished you could choose to publish it and it would come up on a large screen for all to see and admire.  Each design would remain there until replaced by the next one.

After we finished exploring colour we moved on to some of the other delights of the gallery.

 

Some works were so large we felt very, very small.

 

 

After we finished our exploring of Art and Colour we took a slow stroll down the tree lined streets into the city for lunch.

Breathtakingly Beautiful

This was by far the best piece of theatre I have seen.  That's saying something, I have worked on many amazing shows and have watched even more but this stopped me in my tracks.  It was simply breathtaking!

Glorious Visions

Tim Burton at ACMI

Well I finally got around to seeing the Tim Burton exhibition today.  Surviving Burbank: Childhood
Sadly no photos allowed so I had to content myself with pics of the outside of ACMI.  It was a fascinating exhibition, I forgot how many films he has done.  I just loved seeing the costumes from his films, it took all my self control not to touch them!
It finishes on Sunday, so you had better get in quick if you want to see it!
