Choice in Education - Save Footscray City Primary School

A couple of months ago after much soul searching I took my daughter out of the school she had been attending since she was 5 (three and half years) and moved her to another Steiner school across town.  She loved the school, I loved the school but I could see the writing on the wall and I had grave concerns that the school or the Steiner stream she was in would be closed.  Well sadly this has come to pass.  Last Wednesday 26th October the children were given a letter stating that the Steiner stream would be closed at the end of the year.  On the same day a new Principal was put in place and the elected school council was sacked.  There was no consultation with the the school community, no warning and no compassion shown.  The Regional Director, Katherine Henderson stated that the reason for the closure was the 'disharmony' between Steiner and the Mainstream and stated they she believed closing the Steiner stream was in the best interests of the children.  There is no disharmony between the streams, the only disharmony is between the community and the leadership (or lack of) at the school.
The issues here are the lack of consultation and the false reasons given for the closure.  Where is the proof of disharmony? Where is there proof of due process? If this can happen to this school it can happen to any school. Please take the time to look at this website http://savefcps.org/about/  and support this community in their fight for choice in education.
